ESL & Adult Education Program

Education is one of the most important steps towards gaining self-sufficiency and ending the cycle of poverty. AHCD's Education Program provides services to newcomer adults, youth and children. This comprehensive program helps recently arrived immigrants acquire the necessary skills to secure better jobs, to speak with their children's teachers, to become engaged in the civic life of their communities, to pass their citizenship exams, and to improve not only the quality of their lives but the quality of their communities where they live as well.

Today, computer proficiency is a prerequisite in nearly every employment sector and is essential for work and education. In addition, the program offers computer courses for adults with little or no computer experience. These courses equip students with knowledge and skills to secure better employment and increased economic stability

Our goal is to help Haitians newcomers, and other Refugees & Immigrants obtain the skills necessary to become successful in entering employment or postsecondary education, to become self-sufficient citizens, and to achieve their individual ambitions.

Our program engages in the following activities:

  • Free English as a Second Language classes (ESL)

  • Educational Instruction in their Native Language

  • English Language Literacy (ELL)

  • High School Equivalency Programs

  • NA/HHA and IT Support Programs

  • Computer literacy and technology

" When meeting the needs of immigrants to create a better life for themselves, we also lift up communities in ways that benefit everyone."
